No challenge too big, no child too small- for with God nothing will be impossible (Luke 1:37)

PE Intent                                              PE - Topsham Primary School

At Great Wishford C of E Primary School we promote the physical and social development and the healthy lifestyles of children, as well as provide a range of experiences and opportunities to develop confidence, resilience and determination.

This is achieved through a range of both competitive and non-competitive sports and activities. We encourage our children to lead healthy, active life styles and aspire to improve and challenge themselves.

Implementation

We:

  • develop the children's competence and reach their unique potential in a broad range of physical activities
  • plan opportunities for the children to be physically active for sustained periods of time
  • offer the children the opportunity to engage in competitive sports and activities
  • develop the children's understanding of how to lead healthy, active lives and why this is important.

We follow a scheme of work called ‘Complete PE’ which is taught by our Acorn Education Trust Sports Coach.  There are 10 different areas, which have been mapped out across the three classes. Each class studies two different areas each term and are taught by an Acorn Education Trust sports coach. All three classes are following a rolling program to ensure children have access to a wide range of experiences to develop skills, confidence and motivation.  Pupils enjoy their P.E lessons and shows high levels of engagement. Pupils develop their skills within sport and understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
